Founded by Jean Fleischmann, in Nuremberg (1887), Fleischmann is a German manufacturer of model railway products, with their first model train, in O scale, produced in 1938. Their first H0 scale products were introduced in 1952 and their N scale “Piccolo” product line in 1969.
In February 2008 Fleischmann was taken over by Modelleisenbahn GmbH (the Company also owns Roco)
Fleischmann is a well-established brand name in the German model railway industry, rivalling Märklin in market share.
Fleischmann almost exclusively focuses on European prototypes, and produces a line of HO and N Scale products (two-rail), while also producing Märklin-compatible three-rail versions of some locomotives.
The Z21 DCC Control System was development together with Roco.
(The two companies continue as separate brands under Modelleisenbahn GmbH, while benefiting from economies of scale through joined development projects, marketing and procurement)
